Serial award winning T1 Global Telecom Carrier & MSP providing integrated telecommunications, broadband data, internet, and voice services to major organizations, midsize businesses and wholesale customers on a global basis, operating in 28 countries across Europe, Asia and the U.S. with connections into over 200 cities globally and metropolitan area networks in 47 cities, and direct fibre connections into over 20,000 buildings.

Their Network Services offers four main services to address data capacity demands and provide secure, private networking solutions, including Bandwidth and Wavelength, Ethernet, IP VPN and Managed Networking, and Internet Access. Customers include global enterprises, SMEs, and carriers, across a range of industries including finance, IT, media, business services, cloud service providers and fixed and mobile network operators backhaul providers.

Their Voice Services business delivers reliable carrier and enterprise grade voice services with a focus on customers in Western Europe and in Asia. The company provides traditional telephony services as well as VoIP to both enterprises and service providers (e.g. carriers and cloud service providers). The business is ideally positioned to help customers transition from traditional to next generation voice services with a particular focus on Enterprise Voice, including IN services and IP Voice opportunities.

The business is in the midst of a major transformation and restructuring activity designed to enable the focusing of resources on its core network business in an effort to unlock the vast undervalued potential inherent in the companys valuable infrastructure assets. To better leverage its excellent reputation within the marketplace, as well as its comprehensive infrastructure, the business has begun several growth initiatives which will expand in the coming years. These include increasing utilization of existing infrastructure, while at the same time bringing cloud service providers on-net and expanding the network footprint to additional locations on a global basis. Also, greater focus will be placed on information intensive verticals such as capital markets and media, as well as expanding backhaul services to mobile network operators.

Job Description

Key accountabilities:

The Vice President, Engineering will report directly to the COO.

The Engineering organization currently consists of approximately 220 people in total. Direct reports to the Vice President, Engineering and Network Technology include the Directors of:

· Optical Engineering

· Packet Engineering

· Fibre Engineering

· Voice Engineering

· Network Sourcing & Expansion

The fundamental charter of the Vice President, Engineering consists of managing the implementation of a major system-wide network upgrade, which is part of a major business transformation effort underway and is intended to position the company for sustained market leadership and strong growth.

The role will require leadership in identifying and delivering on-going upgrades and investments in the network and managing the roadmap to implement these investments in collaboration with the service delivery and assurance teams.

This individual will have overall responsibility for creating and executing a cohesive strategy involving the refinement of engineering and network service technology methodologies. This person will be responsible for upgrading the optical long-haul networks in Europe and Asia, as well as improving the metro optical backbone to connect their network to the top data centres in the top 10 metros. He or she will also drive the implementation of a new packet platform and distribute it to the top two hundred data centres and carrier hotels across the company footprint.

Additional responsibilities will include:

· Overseeing the entire network, fibre, optical, packet, and software stack;

· Translating technical opportunities into business and customer benefits;

· Further enable the companys award-winning product portfolio including innovative, software defined networking (SDN) products and Ethernet services, to provide value to customers;

· Recruiting, training, motivating and retaining a high performing globally distributed team;

· Contributing to the strategic leadership of the business from a technology perspective and ensuring that the overall business goals are delivered;

Key skills and attributes:

We are seeking an individual with;

· An extensive experience in senior engineering and network management roles within the network services and telecommunications sector.

· It is required that this individual have broad engineering leadership experience, including managing international teams in a large, complex organization across multiple geographies.

· It is critical that this individual have a demonstrable track record of high achievement with respect to executing in a time of rapid growth.

· The ideal candidate will have experience in not only managing packet, fibre and optical networks, but will have demonstrated success in deploying them while a company is in a period of rapid growth.

· Deep technical knowledge, coupled with a business orientation driven by metrics and strategy is required.

· Strong project and program management skills are essential.
