The minimum salary offered for this position is £70,000 pa however the client may pay up to £80,000 pa to those candidates who can meet all key qualifications and abilities

The Company

Our West Sussex based client is a leader in the design and manufacture of high cost, low volume capital equipment. Due to continued growth they require an Operations Director to provide governance across all aspects of Operations (Supply Chain, Logistics, Planning & Production). This position could suit an Operations Manager with who has experience of bespoke engineered to order business and low volume high cost Electro-mechanical products and systems.

The Role

Direct the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives, prioritising production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply

Plan and administer procedures and budgets, making budgetary recommendations and at higher levels, controls capital expenditures and direct/indirect labour

Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function

Work closely with key suppliers (working with supply chain management) to implement streamlined processes and establish partnering relationships with seamless links to production/operation requirements and focus on Quality and inventory control/management.

Establish and train appropriate staff levels to grow the organisation into a world class operation with clear focus on meeting customer deliverables and achieving business goals/objectives for the business

Establish strategy and best practices for staff to ensure achieving of overall business objectives

Develop the appropriate organisational structure and resource plans to support our business objectives and customer deliverables

Manage facilities, resource planning and execution of business objectives for the product - including implementation of required processes and controls

Drive operational efficiencies, with a clear focus on the design, build and delivery of world class quality products within budget and on schedule - while meeting and exceeding product margin goals

Ensuring that fundamental business metrics are in sync with overall company goals plus accurately forecasted, planned for, measured and achieved

Drive change to meet the strategic objectives of the business


Minimum of Degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent.

Masters Degree in Business Management or equivalent (Preferable).

Lean Six Sigma awareness or a formal qualification is desirable.

Extensive experience in operational management in a fast-paced high technology, rapidly expanding organisation

Excellent people management skills, across various functional areas, to achieve common goals

Proven track record and ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve business successes

Great understanding of commercial business elements, with focus on performance measures

Ability to set up processes and controls for various business functions

Demonstrate experience in growing capability of a site, cost control, product cost reductions and margin improvements

Demonstrated ability to manage a complex network of relationships both internally and externally

International travel may be required

Successful candidates will need to be able to pass security clearance requirements.
