JOB ROLE
Act as a member of the Assembly Department mechanical team to carry out all mechanical installation works necessary to produce Gas Turbine Powered Generator Packages, related products, and equipment in accordance with (IAW) predetermined specifications and drawings to meet customer’s requirements.
MAIN DUTIES
Assist Mechanical Coordinator with review of engineering drawings, in relation to their accuracy and compliance with company standards.
Report all non-conformance issues to the mechanical Coordinator.
Read and follow engineering drawings and procedures to confirm all installation requirements have been met.
Installation of mechanical systems, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components into Generator Package Sets IAW build documentation and specifications.
Fit equipment including gas turbine engines, gearboxes, generators, and motors as required.
Carry out precision alignment of engines, generators, gearboxes, and other equipment in accordance with company procedures using a variety of precision tooling and measuring equipment.
Fabricate and install small bore pipework using hand, electric and CNC tube benders. (Training provided)
Fabricate, modify, and rectify nonstandard components to engineering design IAW company processes and procedures.
Provide mechanical support to other departments to meet operational needs.
Assist with the testing of gas turbine engines.
Use a variety of mechanical lifting techniques and equipment (Overhead gantry crane, slinging, chain hoists, hydraulic jacks etc). Training provided.
Carry out repairs on equipment / tooling / machinery, including full diagnostic investigation, selection of parts, repair and final checks as directed by co-ordinator.
Carry out continuous improvement and special projects, including refurbishment, overhaul, diagnostics, and repair of equipment.
Flexibility to work in other mechanical disciplined areas of the business.
To support and mentor apprentices, new staff and customer support engineers within the job role.
Work at customer sites and installations both in the UK and abroad.
Carry out duties compatible with this job and the employees’ individual skills as required by management.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skill and Specific Competencies Required
Qualifications:
Essential:
Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or 5 years related experience.
BTEC National Certificate or City & Guilds – Mechanical. Level 3 Minimum
Desirable:
Any LOLER qualification (or equivalent)
IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent)
Any Team Leader or Management Qualification
Experience:
Experience of general mechanical fitting in a comparable industry eg, aerospace, marine, automotive, or heavy plant.
Working knowledge of power generation systems.
Industrial experience preferred.
Skills:
Competent in the use of hand and power tools including power drills, electric saws etc.
Competent in the use of measuring equipment including micrometres and DTI’s.
Good attention to detail.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Excellent time management skills
Working knowledge of IT / MS Office
Desire to develop professionally
Good level of literacy and numeracy – able to follow written Company procedures and processes.
