The Role
The role of Senior Application Engineer has significant responsibility to develop complex and sophisticated engineering solutions using the company products to meet customer needs. The role is responsible for executing all technical aspects of engineering projects including assessing customer requirements, developing customer hardware and software solutions, supporting customers, and writing technical documentation.
The role requires an expert understanding of the functionality and use of the company's products and how to adapt them for new applications.
Duties:
• Investigate requests for the development of solutions to meet customer applications, originating from customers or internally from Product Management. Undertake investigative / feasibility work to develop solutions. Plan and cost projects; provide information to Sales for quotation.
• Develop complex application solutions through developing new hardware and software, configuring products, and integrating 3rd party products. Test and maintain hardware and software, including release process, version control, and bug management. Write and maintain documentation for designs to describe functionality, use and reasons for design decisions.
• Perform sophisticated acceptance testing of application solutions to verify correct operation, prior to release to the market. Resolve any issues found before providing to customers.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects and work as a team member on projects; plan, track and manage development tasks. Work to deadlines and adapt plans as necessary to meet project objectives.
• Use company procedures, processes, and consistent styles. Write, issue and update hardware and software documentation; adhere to coding standards when developing software. Maintain traceability, update documentation, use version control for all design changes.

The Candidate
Have an expert knowledge of C, C++ and C# programming languages, WPF and XAML.
Have a good knowledge of objects, multi-threaded development, in the MVC/MVVM pattern and SOLID design principles.
Have some experience in developing applications for Linux and Windows.
Able to investigate and understand complex technical issues and problems. Ensure issues are managed appropriately.
Experience in managing 2 to 3 concurrent projects; plan, track and manage development tasks.
Experience of writing technical documentation from non-technical customer input and writing documentation that allows non-technical people to understand the technical solution we are providing.


Desirable Expertise
Experience in an application engineering role, bringing multiple discrete components together to create stable end to end solution to a given set of use cases.
Have some knowledge of product design from feasibility to production, including microprocessor circuits, PCB design and real time embedded software.
Knowledge of Hardware Description Languages (VHDL or Verilog) is useful.
Knowledge of application programming interfaces (APIs) that connect devices to the Internet, along with other key IoT technologies such as Big Data management tools, predictive analytics, AI and machine learning, the cloud, and radio-frequency identification (RFID).

Salary
The salary offered for this position is £50,000- £56,000 plus bonus and benefits package depending on whether a candidate can meet all key qualifications and abilities.
