QEHS Manager



 



 



Reporting to: Operations Director



 



You will be an experienced Quality Manager able to oversee our Aerospace Investment Casting manufacturing facility; including the Wax /Shell /Foundry /Finishing and Final release processes. You will lead and manage all aspects of Quality engineering relating to the manufacturing of castings and downstream processing. Ideally but not essentially you will also have H&S and Environmental experience/expertise to lead and drive forward these functions in our business.



 



You will be able to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment and clear communication is an integral part of the manufacturing process. You will be able to comprehend complex manufacturing operations and understand detailed customer specifications. You should also be able to optimise day-to-day activities whilst at the same time minimizing costs.



 



Your goal is to ensure that production processes deliver products that maximise quality and technical compliance in a profitable manner. This empowered opportunity will utilise your excellent customer service skills in this high precision and often demanding environment. You will organise and lead a team of skilled inspectors and support staff, planning and prioritising workloads for the business.



 



You will be part of the senior management team at a traditional manufacturing company producing some exceptionally complex parts for a range of the top names in the world’s aviation industry, Military and Oil/Gas sectors etc.



 



You will have demonstrable and solid understanding of maintaining AS9100 and ISO quality systems as required, with experience and understanding of FAIR's, CMM inspection / programming and NDT inspection.



 



Key Duties and Responsibilities




  • Management of ISO 9001:2015 and AS 9001 Revision D.

  • Establish KPIs for all direct reports.

  • Manage a team of Quality Control (QC) Inspectors.

  • Establish in-house quality procedures with suitable KPIs that comply with ISO Standards in conjunction with the Operations Manager & Technical Manager.

  • Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with all legal standards (including EH&S) at both national and international level.



 




  • Train Quality Departmental staff on effective monitoring of metrics, such that they have the ability to interrogate the data/system to ensure optimum performance.

  • Responsible for the training of all employees and Agency workers, to encourage and deliver a high standard of compliance within all operational areas.

  • Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) & Collate Best Practice.

  • Establish in-house specifications for both incoming materials and finished goods.

  • Specify quality requirements of raw materials with upstream suppliers.

  • Plan and perform both internal audits, and external supplier audits.

  • Set customer service standards and AQLs.

  • Write management/technical reports.

  • Conduct goods-in inspections and ensure all raw materials meet tight specifications.

  • Record, analyse statistical information, and prepare QC charts/ Monthly Management reports for presentation to senior management on a monthly basis.

  • If required, conduct internal QC investigations, document Non Conformities (NCs), and take appropriate action to ensure that the company adheres to ISO Standards.

  • Perform follow-up on the status of outstanding internal audit issues, as and when required.

  • Keep records of inspection findings, and produce improvement reports.

  • To take responsibility in terms of people management, management of production and quality to ensure the smooth running of the production processes from Goods Inwards to Goods Outwards.

  • Lead, manage and drive production process to be the most efficient and most economical way.

  • Ensure products are QA checked and in line with customer specification.

  • Ensure good communication is given either verbally or written to all members of the production team.

  • Problem solving - to identify root causes and take effective action to resolve the problems at hand.

  • To work closely with Supervisors & Team Leaders to ensure that NPI to production handovers are effective.

  • To ensure that training skills are met for current and future demands of the business.

  • Liaise with Commercial, Sales and Technical design staff regarding dimensional specifications, requirements and drawings.

  • Ensure compliance with the Company’s policies including Health & Safety.



 



 




  • Observe and comply with all good working practices within the factory.

  • Manage day to day activities with respect to OTIF, Quality & Cost.

  • Set daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicate them to Supervisors, Managers and senior leadership team.

  • Organise workflow by assigning responsibilities and preparing schedules.

  • Ensuring all parts have correcting Routing (PFEP) and IPC is relevant and up to date.

  • Identify issues in efficiency and suggest improvements



 



Skills and Experience Required




  • Experience of managing a technically demanding Quality Department.

  • In-depth knowledge of both ISO 9001 and AS 9001 ideally ISO 14001 Standards

  • Ability to set up/maintain an ISO 9001 Quality Management system from first principles.

  • Auditor experience

  • In depth knowledge of AS9100

  • Proven track record in setting a long-term vision on quality, and driving it forwards to improve company performance.

  • Understanding of industry regulations, including all EH&S.

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to present a detailed quality strategy to senior management.

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate team members as and when appropriate.

  • Ability to establish meaningful KPIs for staff and equipment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to prioritise, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work on own initiative, whilst also being a good team player.



 




  • Excellent communication and people skills

  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills.

  • Be hard working and conscientious with the ability to motivate & support and have a desire to contribute to the Senior Manager team.

  • The ability to work calmly under pressure, show good initiative, enthusiasm and lead by example.

  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications - exceptional attention to detail.

  • Expertise in a technical, engineering and/or relevant field is an added advantage.

  • Hold a valid driving license.



 



Desirable but not essential




  • NEBOSH

  • LEAN and/or Six sigma experience.

  • Operational knowledge of an aerospace manufacturing process, with an ability to detect areas of weakness in terms of quality.

  • Knowledge of MRP or ERP systems, in terms of defining and setting Ppk and Cpk limits for all critical path equipment.
