The Role

Working within the Engineering Team, the Design Engineering Technician will be responsible for maintaining and developing the existing company product range and assisting in creating solutions to customer problems from within this portfolio primarily into the marine sector also civil nuclear. Working within the Engineering function the Design Engineering Technician will promote excellence and quality throughout the Company, applying sound Engineering judgement and practices at all times.

The Design Engineering Technician, in conjunction with the Design Manager, and the Engineering Standards Manager will be responsible for facilitating the flow of reliable, accurate and readily available data, to both internal and external customers.

Duties will include but not be limited to assistance in the following: -

Producing product designs and manufacturing drawings in Solidworks.

Follow and maintain systems in SolidWorks and PDM and adhering to applicable standards whilst ensuring high levels of accuracy and data quality.

Detail designs and update production database for launch to production.

Create and maintain standard drawing formats to meet the requirements of the business.

Maintaining products and procedures to European and International standards.

ntroducing and maintaining Engineering processes for technical valve design and validation.

Considering the contracted requirements for validating products and creating appropriate procedures and programmes.

Producing reports and project plans, autonomously or with the appropriate project lead.

Producing technical documents in support of the valve design process.

Participating in cross functional teams and collaborating with the engineering team accordingly.

Ensuring continued communication and good relationships with external and internal customers.

Liaise with and provide technical support to customers and suppliers.

Liaise with Development technicians to assess results from testing.

Carrying out any other duties appropriate to this post, as necessary or as requested.

The Candidate

Ideal role for a graduate with a placement

Candidates must be born in the U.K due to the industry

HNC/D or A-Levels in Mechanical Design/Engineering or related engineering discipline required.

Professional body membership or willing to attain, IMechE or similar is required.

Competent level of knowledge of engineering & technology principles & practices.

Able to understand and maintain accurate engineering records, drawings, design calculations and files.

Able to produce and design working 2D drawings using 3D modelling with the use of 3D SolidWorks CAD.

Ability to produce written technical reports at a high level with a high attention to detail.

Ability to conduct and undertake mechanical analysis or at least a knowledge and understanding of terminology.

Ensure continued communication and good relationships with customers and suppliers through and beyond the project life.

Knowledge of Defence standards and accreditations is desirable.

Competent level of computer literacy e.g. MS Office Skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint), EFACS. Experience of working with and implementing Lean manufacturing tools and techniques is desirable.
